The Story of Rahan through memories and recollections.
This film shines a light into a small rural area in the Irish midlands called Rahan.
It gives a voice to the memories and recollections of some of its oldest citizens as well as a few younger ones!.
Through their interviews we get a glimpse into the history of a small, rural place, that was, and is, the whole world to many.
The film documents the early history of Rahan and the arrival of St. Colman and St.Carthage in the 500s. Later, we fast-forward to the arrival of of the Grand Canal in the 1800s and the industries and people it brought with it-people like Ms. Maria O’Brien, the Presentation Sisters and the Jesuits.
Three of those interviewed were already born when the War of Independence raged through the country.
Their stories begin in its aftermath.
The subjects of religion, education, emigration,rationing, pastimes and our cultural heritage are all discussed, helping to paint a detailed picture of the history of this great place called Rahan.
