Works as a legal review analyst, but in his spare time is an independent historian. His research is primarily concerned with Birr Barracks, the Leinster Regiment and social histories of Offaly families who served in the British Army.
Stephen was the project historian for the excavation of WW1 mock trenches at Birr Barracks in 2018 and was involved with the conservation of Captain Lancelot Studholme’s cross in 2019.
He run’s a weekly blog, ‘the barracks square’ which tells the story of people behind various artefacts or gravestones.
