					  <description><![CDATA[<div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt;">Scope of the Collections</span><br/><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt;">The Library and Archives preserves, 
        books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, atlases, newspapers, films, recordings 
        and memorabilia the document 10,000 years of life in the area. The Library 
        and Archives foster historical and archaeological historical research 
        on Offaly, a county pivotal to the story of Ireland's settlement.
      Collection Strenghts</span><br/><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt;">
        Holdings include 10,000 volumes, 
        manuscript materials, maps, 30,000 photographs that support research in 
        every aspect of local history with strengths in the following areas:</span>
      </div><ul style="text-align: justify; font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">
<li>archaeology , early and modern history of Ireland</li>
<li>commerce and business</li>
<li>neighbourhood history - Offaly and other counties</li>
<li>family history and genealogy (Laois and Offaly)</li>
<li>church histories - Ireland</li>
<li>industry and transport, particularly canals, distilleries, Ireland</li>
<li>sport and education</li>

      Photographs and Other Images</span><br/>
<span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">        Over 30,000 photographs, postcards 
        and prints of people and places document the history of Offaly. The collections 
        depict residential, religious, commercial and industrial buildings; bridges 
        and waterways; views of local people and events. Images from the Society's 
        collection are used by researchers, authors, publishers and advertisers. 
        Outstanding photographic collections include Hanley and Magan collections 
        and the Soceity's postcard and photographic collection.
      </span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"></span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">
        The Offaly Historical & Archaeological 
        Society is expanding its resources on the county's social and political 
        history, health and welfare, work, small businesses and women's history. 
        It is actively involved with the adjoining Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre, 
        opened in the year 2000.</span></div>]]></description>

					  <title><![CDATA[OHAS Centre Facilities]]></title>

					  <description><![CDATA[<span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">     <b>Exhibition and Research Centre</b></span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">
        In 1992, the Offaly Historical & Archaeological Society opened the 
        Research Centre in a former wine warehouse building in Tullamore. The 
        8,000 square-foot centre contains an extensive library and photographic 
        collection, maps and archive material, book shop and exhibition centre. 
        In 1999, a new exhibition centre was opened to promote local studies, 
        photography and painting. Here the Society's monthly lectures are held.</span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">
</span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><b>Library and Archives</b></span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">
        The Library contains reference materials on every aspect of local history, 
        Irish heritage and community studies.</span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">
      </span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><b>Book Shop</b></span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">
        The Book Shop offers a wide selection of publications and photographs 
        of Old Offaly for sale.</span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">
      </span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><b>Special Services</b></span><br/><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">

        Photocopying services and photographic reproductions available on request
